The Age of Machines: A future not too far away
The trend in technology spanning from about twenty years to this time presents a predictable future — an imaginative fate of our kinds. It has caused many to ask questions on who we are, where we are, and the destiny of humankind.
A lot has changed and everything is happening very fast. Information travels very fast with the speed of light. Access to information is now within the tip of a finger. It has revolutionized all existing industries.
We are all evolving very fast into a future that is not far away. The foreseeable future is quite scary. A few years from now, we would not need any of these devices to communicate or to do the usual tasks because we would all become the devices. We are gradually evolving into becoming these devices we constantly bend our heads towards. It would no longer be humans sitting in front of computers but humans becoming computers. Soon humans would become digitized.
We have reached the times of intelligence explosion, leading to the point of uncontrollable technological growth. This will result in irreversible changes in human civilization.
The accelerating progress of technology and changes in the human culture suggest we’re approaching a singularity in the history of the human experience. The quest for extension of life, mind uploading, and to become superintelligent through an upgradable intelligent agent (artificial intelligence as we know it) would force an evolution.
We’re in a time of enlightenment — a period of disclosure that’d force unfathomable changes in human affairs as we know them, would not continue. Certain events would happen that’d cause us to question the nature of existence and the origin of humanity.
Technological progress is limited by the basic intelligence of the human brain — one of the reasons to seek a higher form of intelligence to enhance a superhuman intelligence. Artificial intelligence, a revolutionary technology would amplify human intelligence to create inventions and solve problems that were once considered technologically impossible. It would force scientific discoveries into an age of mastery — a point of playing God.
The increasing power of computers and other technologies might help us to build a machine with artificial intelligence capabilities.
If an Artificial Intelligence is created with engineering capabilities that matched or surpassed those of its human creators, it would have the potential to autonomously improve the software and hardware with which it is built or design an even more capable machine. This more capable machine could then go on to design a machine of yet greater capability.
These iterations of recursive self-improvement could accelerate, potentially allowing enormous qualitative change before any upper limits imposed by the laws of physics or theoretical computation set in. It is speculated that over many iterations, such an AI would far surpass human cognitive abilities.
When machines become self-aware and possess invention capabilities without any human intervention, they might become a threat to humanity. AI, in this respect, poses an existential threat to humanity. The technology they would create would be beyond human control.
A future that would be created by an advanced AI is unfathomable. This leaves us with the questions — What will happen after the Technological Singularity? When Machines take over the world, what will be next?
