Imagination Vs. Knowledge

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.” _ Albert Einstein (1929)

“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.” _ Robert Fulghum (1986)

Imagination in my word is creating an image into action. It is not enough to create an image in your mind without acting. Knowing how to act your imaginations is where knowledge comes in. One reason, I’d argue imagination without knowledge is useless.

A quote from Stephen R. Covey: “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)

Writing down your imaginations is good but drawing your imaginations makes you a creator. When you draw them, you reproduce your imaginations even better to inspire others. It is like producing the blueprints of your thoughts.

I may be wrong to say this: “Everyone is born an artist…every child can draw. Show me a child that doesn’t draw, such a child is lost.”

To me, it seems the Creator gave every individual this gift or ability so they can create their own world. You make alive anything you draw.

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination encircles the world.” _ Albert Einstein

As much as imagination is important, knowledge allows the imagination process to be completed and useful. The subject of imagination and knowledge is not a question of superiority.

Knowledge initiates and refines imaginations. Imagination is the raw material while knowledge refines it for use— meaning, you can promote more ideas through knowledge from a single imagination.

In a clearer term, imagination is the mother of all knowledge, and any imagination born out of knowledge is her grandchildren.

Knowledge could be an illusion. Denzel Washington made a statement which I think is very profound;

“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed.”

In a nutshell, imagination and knowledge work synergistically. They are both equally important. Therefore, I would say, in your imagination produce knowledge…in your knowledge use imaginations.
